Your wedding is a very special day and as your chosen celebrant I will do my best to ensure your needs are met and that you celebrate the day as you imagine it.
The Marriage Act and Regulations make it clear that your wedding day is all about you – the bride and groom.
Subject to the following requirements, a civil ceremony is by law to be written to reflect your wishes.
Marriage by an Authorized Celebrant has three required components.
The “Monitum”, to be said prior to the marriage vows is as follows:
“I am duly authorized by law to solemnize marriage according to law.”
“Before you are joined in marriage in my presence and in the presence of these witnesses, I am to remind you of the solemn and binding nature of the relationship into which you are now about to enter.”
“Marriage, according to law in Australia, is the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life.”
Form of Ceremony – the vows
The regulations state that in the presence of an authorised celebrant, it is required that all parties say to each other, in the presence of witnesses, the following words.
“I call upon the persons here present to witness that I bride’s full name, take thee, groom’s full name, to be my lawful wedded husband.”
“I call upon the persons here present to witness that I groom’s full name, take thee, bride’s full name, to be my lawful wedded wife.”
